It was revealed this week that WWE and Adnan Virk have parted ways, leaving RAW without a lead announcer. The reason for his departure was officially listed as being issues with travel, but it's widely believed that both sides agreed that Virk was not a good fit for the role (he clearly knew next to nothing about pro wrestling so was a strange hire to begin with).
Now, it's been confirmed - via Dave Meltzer - that former UFC and Bellator commentator Jimmy Smith is set to take over Virk's role on Monday nights.
He now joins Corey Graves and Byron Saxton, and Smith thankfully has some WWE experience, He's been used on some TakeOver pre-shows, and Michael Cole has reportedly been working closely with him (which bodes well). The SmackDown lead announcer has reportedly heaped praise on Smith and believes him to be very versatile.
Smith has a lot of fans in the MMA world, though it will be interesting seeing whether WWE fans warm to him. Plus, it's not easy for anyone to have Vince McMahon barking in your ear for three hours a week!
He's also a former MMA fighter with a 5-1 record, and he's had a broadcasting career since 2007.
We'll let you know when an official announcement drops!
