It's official, Kofi Kingston will defend the WWE Championship against Samoa Joe at Extreme Rules on July 14.

The title match was teased last night when the former United States champion viciously attacked a wary Kofi Kingston. The WWE Champion was coming off a successful title defense against Dolph Ziggler at Stomping Grounds and previously competed against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens prior to the violent assault.

On paper, the match-up looks very attractive as both Joe and Kingston are both very good wrestlers and solid talkers as well. While it makes no sense that a RAW wrestler is once again challenging for the blue brand’s top title, I think it’s been established that WWE isn’t too interested in the details of the Wild Card Rule.
