Former NXT Champion Keith Lee hasn't had the easiest time since being called up to the main roster, and after a nasty battle with COVID-19, he recently returned to RAW.
Unfortunately, things didn't improve, and he suffered a couple of quick losses to WWE Champion Bobby Lashley and Karrion Kross. Now, Lee has vanished from television again, with WWE instead opting to use him for quick squash matches that take place before RAW and SmackDown go on the air.
According to a recent PWInsider.com report, the idea is that this is being done to "refine" him and figure out the best creative direction moving forward.
However, Dave Meltzer added to that in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, saying that the idea of these dark matches every Monday and Friday is because WWE is looking to change his style and give him a new character. As a result, these short bouts are considered practice for the one-time NXT fan-favourite, and while he has been receiving babyface pops, that could change soon too.
WrestlingNews.co notes that Vince McMahon has considered turning Lee into a monster heel, and that could very well be the only way to salvage him on the main roster at this stage.
We'll keep you guys updated.
