While we haven't heard anything official, all signs are beginning to point to Big E being able to return to in-ring action.
He suffered a potentially career-ending neck injury last year, but seems to be on the road to a successful recovery. Despite an underwhelming WWE Championship run (which was down to bad booking and no fault of his own), Big E is still viewed as a top star and there are huge plans in place for him according to a new report.
During last night's SmackDown, Xavier Woods failed to defeat Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship, a title that has regained its prestige in recent months.
Now, the stage is supposedly being set for The New Day to feud with Imperium once Big E and Kofi Kingston return from their respective injuries.
Big E, a multi-time Intercontinental Champion, would be at the centre of that by feuding with Gunther for the title. Whether he'll be the one to end the German Superstar's lengthy title reign remains to be seen, but we're sure these two would steal the show when they go head-to-head in a hard-hitting battle.
We'll see how this pans out, though it's possible WWE plans to surprise us with a reunion for The New Day during the upcoming WWE Draft. There's already talk of big debuts, including some of NXT's top stars.
Stay tuned for updates as we have them.
