Earlier this month, it was widely reported that WWE hopes to bring The Rock back to the company in time for Survivor Series. The Great One hasn't wrestled since beating Erick Rowan in a squash match at WrestleMania 32, while his last proper bout actually took place way back at WrestleMania 29.
That was in a losing effort to John Cena, but WWE's new grand plan is to have Dwayne Johnson face Roman Reigns in a match you have to believe would cement the latter as the true Head of the Table.
Now, Dave Meltzer is reporting that WWE is looking to kick off the storyline as soon as possible, with Survivor Series likely setting the stage for next year's WrestleMania. "Obviously The Rock vs. Roman Reigns is something that they’re building towards and it would be...every year gets tougher and tougher because Dwayne gets a year older and, you know, but I think he really wants to do a match against Roman Reigns," Meltzer explained.
"I think for sure it’ll be in next two WrestleManias, and if he can pull it off, the next WrestleMania."
Ultimately, it sounds like this match is going to hinge on a number of factors, including Johnson's Hollywood commitments. If a huge movie role comes along that will pay considerably more than WWE, then it would make sense for The Rock to take that instead. He was also injured in his matches with Cena, and that could have a negative impact on his acting career if it were to happen again.
We're hopeful it happens, but keep checking back here for updates!
