As we gear up to begin heading down the Road to WrestleMania, rumours continue to swirl about WWE's plans for the Showcase of the Immortals. Last Friday, John Cena made his in-ring return to team with Kevin Owens for a match again Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn on SmackDown, with the duo picking up a win over the Bloodline.
Since then, we've heard there are indeed plans for the leader of the Cenation at WrestleMania, but who will the Peacemaker star end up facing?
According to Fightful Select, Cody Rhodes has been pitched as one possible opponent for Cena, though that may have been prior to Vince McMahon's ousting from the company. Austin Theory and Logan Paul are said to be among the more likely candidates, with the latter looking most likely.
That would be a huge match, and one that would get WWE a huge amount of mainstream media attention.
The set also confirms recent reports that the company is no longer moving forward with Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch. There was a time when we'd have all killed to see that singles match on the Grandest Stage of Them All, but the, moment may have passed and both women are still expected to be showcased at the event.
While the expectation is still that Cody Rhodes will challenge for the WWE Championship, everything appears to be in flux following McMahon's departure. That includes The Rock's possible return, with neither The Great One nor Paul confirmed for WrestleMania at this point in time.
During last night's RAW, WWE started hyping up Rhodes' return with a video package detailing his recovery. It would be a major missed opportunity to not give him the chance to finally win the world title, and if the response from fans to that teaser is any indication, he remains as over as ever.
Stay tuned for updates.
