The Rock returned to WWE earlier this year and joined the TKO Holdings board as part of a massive deal which saw the Brahma Bull regain the rights to his name and catchphrases.
Original plans called for him to headline WrestleMania in a match with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns; instead, fans made it clear they didn't want that and #WeWantCody trending worldwide for the better part of a week saw Cody Rhodes get his rematch with the Head of the Table as planned.
The night before that takes place, the American Nightmare is set to team with Seth Rollins to square off with The Rock and Reigns in a tag team match. The People's Champion has been left with no other choice than to turn heel and appears to be having a blast doing so.
While we expect this to eventually lead to The Rock vs. Reigns - perhaps at next year's WrestleMania - it's been revealed today that WWE is pushing for The Great One to wrestle in Saudi Arabia later this year.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer claims that there are those in the company pushing for The Rock to face his cousin at a Saudi PLE.
"When asking if Rock will be working that show, we’re told there are a lot of variables in play and a variety of factors, but obviously the company would like it if he would," Meltzer explains. "But while nothing is set in stone, the belief as of right now is that Mania won’t be his only match in 2024, and there is definitely a push to get him to work at least one Saudi Arabia event this year."
In other news, the insider @WrestleVote X account confirms next week's SmackDown could see the return of "The Rock Concert."
"According to sources, the much-anticipated return of 'The Rock Concert' could light up next week's SmackDown, live from Memphis, TN," the account reveals. "I’m told this idea has been brewing for weeks, with a possible announcement of it tonight on [SmackDown]."
The Rock is hitting a lot of familiar notes with this heel run, but that's proving to be part of the fun! As always, stay tuned for updates as we have them.
