Despite WWE's attempt to turn Becky Lynch heel at SummerSlam, the Brooklyn fans completely rejected the idea and refused to boo her then or at SmackDown Live a couple of nights later. This week in Toronto, she once again received a babyface reaction and it appears as if WWE is now cooling off on the idea of portraying the Irish Lass Kicker as a bad guy in this feud with Charlotte Flair.
According to Rewind-A-SmackDown podcast host John Pollick, WWE has changed the direction of the storyline so that it's no longer a traditional heel/babyface dynamic and instead, "it’s two ex-friends that both have valid points and neither is going to back down from the other and still getting Becky to the same place they wanted to but not so much wanting Charlotte to be a heel."
Looking at this week's SmackDown Live, Lynch was portrayed in something of a heel-ish fashion but the fact she called Charlotte a "bitch" was more reminiscent of a cool babyface or tweener so WWE may have been forced to accept that fans will be cheering for her whether they like it or not. It's now going to be interesting seeing how this plays out and what sort of impact it has on Lynch's persona.
