According to Fightful, there has been more talk in WWE of cost-cutting, and that could mean another wave of releases are imminent. It's said that some major names are on the list as the company looks to save money during the pandemic by reducing its roster of talent.
When All Elite Wrestling launch, WWE signed up its Superstars to high-cost lengthy contracts that would ensure they couldn't leave for greener pastures.
Now, though, it seems WWE isn't as bothered, likely because NXT no longer goes head-to-head with Dynamite and RAW and SmackDown remain comfortably ahead of that show in the ratings. If these releases are coming, it will likely be later today as WWE tends to wait for late morning/early afternoon.
It remains to be seen who will end up being released, but it's no secret that there are a lot of wrestlers working for the company who would like to be freed from their contracts.
In April, WWE released everyone from Samoa Joe to Mickie James and The IIconics, while we recently saw a number of noteworthy names from NXT also receive their marching orders.
While WWE is currently making record profits, these releases aren't surprising after the past year. We'll obviously keep you updated if and when these announcements are made, but you have to believe there are a lot of Superstars either very excited or nervous as we head deeper into Wednesday.
