For those of you wondering about Sami Zayn not appearing at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia on Friday, we may now have some details. Apparently, anyone who had any objections with travelling to the country was offered the opportunity to stay behind and not compete and Zayn did that because he's from Syrian descent and has been very vocal about the issues in that country.
For those of you who may not be aware, diplomatic ties between Saudi Araba and Syria are not good and for what it's worth, WWE has now released a statement shedding some light on the matter.
"WWE is committed to embracing individuals from all backgrounds while respecting local customs and cultural differences around the world," it reads, vaguely alluding to Zayn's absence from the show. Should we believe it, though? Well, Ryan Satis is reporting that Zayn was not booked on the show in order to show respect to the local culture in Saudi Arabia and that's very troubling.
After all, just like women weren't allowed to appear, it now seems Zayn was stopped because he's from Syria. As a result, WWE getting into bed with Saudi Arabia continues to be a tad unsettling.
