There have been rumblings for years that WWE is targeting independent promotions which gain traction as a way of stopping them from taking off before they start. After all, Vince McMahon doesn't want any sort of competition and even though these small companies may not look like they could ever rival WWE, he obviously wants to make sure that never winds up being the case down the line.
Now, it's being reported that just weeks after announcing another UK Championship Tournament to overshadow ITV's World of Sport relaunch, WWE is setting its sights on Major League Wrestling.
The promotion is owned by ex-WWE creative team writer Court Bauer and Dave Meltzer notes that WWE is starting to get aggressive signing independent talent away from MLW because they have a weekly TV show on beIN Sports on a Friday night. Now, that's no Fox but you can see why Vince and company wouldn't want anyone else airing a wrestling show the same time theirs is on the air!
We don't know exactly what will become of this but it just goes to show that despite the Monday Night Wars being a thing of the past, there's no way WWE is happy with being anything other than #1.
