Preview & Predictions for WWE NXT New Year's Evil 2026:
On tap for tonight's episode, it's hard not to imagine one of the titles changing hands, since WWE likes doing that on shows like this. Last year, both men's and women's NXT championships changed hands. But I struggle to feel like any of these would actually make any sense to do.
Kendal Grey is already the EVOLVE women's champion, so why give her a double champion status and that big of a push this quickly? I'm not buying it.
Leon Slater beating Oba Femi is just flat out not going to happen as he's contracted to TNA and they're likely doing another Je'Von Evans match at Stand & Deliver, but both Femi and Evans have been teased for the main roster, too, which is odd. If this were Dion Lennox, I'd be a little more suspicious of a title change.
So I guess Blake Monroe beats Thea Hail and wins back the title she was never meant to lose in the first place? That would be so lame of WWE to not run with the ball and actually give Hail a push. But I guess if they had other plans, they'd argue those were more important and I guess we'll have to see how that plays out if this happens.
Izzi Dame beating or losing to Tatum Paxley doesn't make a huge change, but I think Paxley deserves to win the feud and get some revenge for the title situation. Dame gets a boost just for being in this storyline and doesn't need to win it. She'll get her push out of it regardless of a loss here.
Here are your results for WWE NXT New Year's Evil - January 6, 2026:
- The NXT Women's North American Championship match was supposed to kick off the show, but Blake Monroe attacked Thea Hail during Hail's entrance. Ava later banned Monroe from the building, postponing this match for another time.
- Ricky Saints cut a promo about how he is going to win back the NXT Championship from Oba Femi (or Leon Slater, if he were to win tonight), how he and Femi are 1-1, and that Trick Williams and Je'Von Evans ran away from NXT to get away from him.
- Tatum Paxley defeated Izzi Dame by pinfall.
- In a backstage segment, Thea Hail begged Ava to let her defend the WNA title tonight, even though Monroe has been banned from the building. Hail suggested doing an open challenge, and with some help from Jordynne Grace in convincing Ava, that title defense is now on for later.
- Singles Match for the NXT Women's Championship: Jacy Jayne (c) defeated Kendal Grey by pinfall.
- In Ava's office, Ethan Page touted how great of a champion he was in 2025 before bringing in The Vanity Project, who want to talk to Ava about their goals for 2026.
- Open Challenge Singles Match for the NXT Women's North American Championship: Izzi Dame won the title from Thea Hail (c) after defeating her by pinfall.
- Backstage, Lola Vice was watching this on a monitor. The Vanity Project approached her to try to spit some game. Hank Walker and Tank Ledger then told them to beat it. Vice mentions that she beat Dame recently, so she should be in line for a title shot, but first, she wants to take care of Kelani Jordan, who stormed into the room and started a fight with her.
- In Ava's office, Joe Hendry is looking for a fight against Dion Lennox in a No DQ match for next week. Ava says that if it is no disqualification, it will end up being a handicap match with the rest of DarkState. Hendry suggests he can find some people to offset DarkState, so Ava agrees to it.
- Singles Match for the NXT Championship: Oba Femi (c) defeated Leon Slater by pinfall. It then appears that Oba Femi may have relinquished the NXT Championship as he left it behind to end the episode while Ava was talking to some EVOLVE talent about how they might get called up to NXT soon.
