Preview & Predictions for WWE NXT:
On tap for tonight's episode, Tony D'Angelo, Mason Rook and Saquon Shugars collide in a Triple Threat Match to determine the next challenger for NXT Champion Grayson Waller; Kali Armstrong faces Lizzy Rain; DarkState battles Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux; and Myles Borne attempts to publicly apologize to former tag team partner Tavion Heights.
This apology storyline has been a bust. I don't know why WWE is stretching this out (other than literally "to stretch it out"), but it's been awful every step of the way, and I doubt this show takes it in an interesting direction. They repeat themselves and go nowhere, Borne just attacks Heights again anyway and we're back at the point we were after Heatwave, or Heights attacks Borne and we're back to months ago. Yawn.
DarkState versus Sean Legacy and DVD feels like the type of match that will either get thrown out when 2-4 other tag teams join the fray and start fighting ringside, or that happens and the pinfall comes as a result of that distraction and basically doesn't mean anything. We're getting a multi-team thing next, almost assuredly, so I doubt either team wins here and then puts the other at the back of the line.
Lizzy Rain and Kali Armstrong isn't a true No. 1 contender's match, but I think Rain gets the win and uses that to fight Zaria at an upcoming show.
Regarding the true #1 contender's match, all Triple Threat options are viable. D'Angelo getting a one-on-one and failing to regain his title from Grayson Waller is my guess, but Rook or Shugars winning and also losing to Waller aren't out of the realm of possibility. I just don't think any of these three will take the belt.
Here are your results for WWE NXT - September 15, 2026:
- Singles Match: Kali Armstrong defeated Lizzy Rain by pinfall. Rain countered Armstrong several times late in the match and came close to finishing her with Thunderstruck, but Armstrong avoided the kick and connected with the Kali Connection for the victory. Skylar Raye returned immediately afterward and attacked Armstrong until security separated them.
- BirthRight confronted Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux backstage before their match and warned that they intend to eliminate any teams standing between them and the NXT Tag Team Championship.
- Cruz Montana and EK Prosper argued their case to Robert Stone following last week's loss. Vanity Project interrupted and mocked them, leading Stone to make Montana and Prosper vs NXT Tag Team Champions Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes official for later in the show.
- Tag Team Match: DarkState (Osiris Griffin and Cutler James) defeated Sean Legacy and Dorian Van Dux by pinfall. Legacy and Van Dux appeared close to winning after a series of dives and a Shooting Star Press, but Dion Lennox attacked Van Dux while the referee was distracted. Griffin and James capitalized with a double-team powerbomb for the victory. BirthRight then attacked Legacy and Van Dux after the bell, prompting Zilla Fatu to run out and fight them off. Charlie Dempsey briefly stopped Fatu, but Fatu recovered and hit him with Triple Z.
- A video package focused on Mason Rook's wrestling career before WWE and his determination to prove his doubters wrong while pursuing the NXT Championship.
- Zaria was having her arm examined backstage when Izzi Dame approached and continued playing mind games with her, asking whether people are born wicked or have wickedness forced upon them. Zaria became frustrated and walked away.
- Myles Borne came to the ring and apologized to Tavion Heights for attacking him at Heatwave. Borne said he acted out of fear because he believed Heights was preparing to turn against him. Heights initially remained skeptical, but Borne reminded him that he had previously forgiven Heights and said the two of them were unstoppable together. Heights eventually accepted the apology and told Borne they could put everything behind them. Borne responded by immediately hitting Heights with Borne Again, sending him through the ringside LED barricade and then wrapping a steel chair around Heights' ankle before stomping on it. Officials rushed to help Heights as Borne was sent away.
- Kendal Grey received another medical evaluation regarding the issues that have kept her out of action. Although she is not in concussion protocol, the lingering problems with her balance and vertigo mean she remains medically uncleared to compete.
- Non-Title Tag Team Match: NXT Tag Team Champions The Vanity Project (Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes) defeated Cruz Montana and EK Prosper by pinfall. Jackson Drake attempted to interfere but was caught by the referee and ejected along with Myka Lockwood. Prosper later appeared to have Smokes in trouble, but Baylor secretly held Prosper's legs from the apron while Smokes used a backslide to steal the three-count.
- Saquon Shugars was interviewed ahead of the main event before Tristan Angels interrupted and argued that Shugars did not deserve an NXT Championship opportunity. Shugars dismissed him and remained focused on becoming No. 1 contender.
- NXT Women's Champion Kelani Jordan came to the ring and declared that nobody in the division was willing to step up to her after Wren Sinclair got herself suspended. New AAA Reina de Reinas Champion La Catalina interrupted and said she also intends to take women's wrestling to another level. NXT Women's North American Champion Zaria joined them and boasted about unifying her title with the WWE Women's Speed Championship. La Catalina reminded Zaria that Thea Hail had recently made her tap out, bringing Hail to the ring as well. The argument turned into a brawl, with Hail and La Catalina clearing Jordan and Zaria from the ring.
- Shiloh Hill continued experimenting with the different colored mist associated with Naraku. Hill tested yellow mist on himself and initially believed it had no effect before he began hallucinating and seeing talking raccoons.
- Robert Stone announced that the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is returning. The tournament will feature 14 teams from NXT, Raw, SmackDown, EVOLVE and AAA, with the bracket to be revealed later in the week and first-round matches beginning next Tuesday. Julius and Brutus Creed immediately expressed interest in entering the tournament.
- NXT Championship No. 1 Contender Triple Threat Match: Mason Rook defeated Tony D'Angelo and Saquon Shugars by pinfall to earn an NXT Championship opportunity. Shugars appeared to have the match won after hitting D'Angelo with a top-rope splash, but Tristan Angels ran out and pulled the referee from the ring to stop the count. Shugars went after Angels on the floor, leaving Rook alone with D'Angelo. D'Angelo attempted to lift Rook, but his back gave out, allowing Rook to hit a Blue Thunder Bomb followed by a top-rope splash for the pinfall. Grayson Waller, who had spent much of the episode running on a treadmill, immediately came to the ring and stared down his new challenger with the NXT Championship to close the show.
