WWE Payback kicked off with Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus finally ending their long-running rivalry within the confines of a Steel Cage. Zoey Stark inevitably got involved but was taken out by "The Man" before she pinned Stratus with a Manhandle Slam from the top turnbuckle to finally vanquish her foe.
After the match, Stratus slapped Stark, only to receive the Z360 and be left lying by her mentee.
Guest host John Cena later hit the ring, announcing himself as the special guest referee for LA Knight vs. The Miz. The red hot babyface walked away with a clean win much to the delight of the crowd and was put over by the leader of the Cenation in a big way.
Rey Mysterio retained the United States Championship against Austin Theory, but Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn's run as Undisputed Tag Team Champions is over.
JD McDonagh, Rhea Ripley, and Dominick Mysterio all got involved at various points, allowing Finn Balor and Damian Priest to steal a win...and the titles.
Cody Rhodes was a guest on "The Grayson Waller Effect" to announce that Jey Uso is back in WWE and now a member of the RAW roster, while Women's World Champion was able to keep hold of her title after a hard-fought contest with Raquel Rodriguez.
The show was main evented by Seth Rollins defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura and, on a few occasions, it looked like the King of Strong Style might have him beat. However, a well-time Stomp ensured he retained the title.
Still, this feud doesn't appear to be over, something that was evident from a post-show attack by Nakamura!
