A number of matches have been confirmed for SummerSlam, including Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler. The latter turned on her tag team partner at Money in the Bank, costing them the Women's Tag Team Championships in the process.
Despite that, Rousey is very much considered the heel in this rivalry and a war of words between the two women has ensued in the weeks since.
There have been rumblings WWE might have unique plans for this match at SummerSlam, particularly as they both have a UFC background. In fact, based on recent wording used by WWE, it sounds like rather than a match, we should expect a "fight" at the PLE!
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports that, "the idea is not a street fight but more of an MMA rules type of match, which makes sense with both having extensive backgrounds."
It's unclear whether this will lead to a rule change of any sort but chances are we can expect to see a greater MMA influence on this pro wrestling match than what you might usually expect.
In related news, Meltzer also confirms the current plan is to also add Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Rodriguez for the World Women's Championship to SummerSlam. "We were told that as of last word, it was still on the show, although they are doing a knee injury angle with Rodriguez."
Here's the current confirmed card:
Triple Threat Match for the WWE Women’s Championship
Asuka (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair
World Heavyweight Championship
Seth Rollins (c) vs. Finn Balor
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes
Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler
Logan Paul vs. Ricochet
