WrestleMania is fast approaching and, as the card starts taking shape, fans are getting increasingly excited for the two-night Show of Shows.
Night 1 will be headlined by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns teaming up to take on Cody Rhodes and World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins; if The Rock and Roman win, it's "Bloodline Rules" for the American Nightmare's title match on Night 2.
However, if the babyfaces prevail, then The Bloodline will be banned from ringside, giving Rhodes a fair shot at the Tribal Chief's title. In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reveals that the current plan is to push Rhodes as an underdog heading into the match.
"With the concept being here in Philadelphia, we know the American Dream and we know the American Nightmare," he explains. "We know good times and hard times and that being an underdog isn't something to be feared; it’s something to be embraced. One person got a script for a VO and noted that Rhodes in the script is going to be pushed as a Philadelphia-style Rocky underdog."
It's a smart move by WWE and, with it looking unlikely that The Rock will take a loss in his first proper match in WWE since 2013, we're betting that Rhodes will have to fend off The Bloodline on Sunday night before finally winning the title and finishing his story.
In other WWE news, we learned earlier this week that there has been chatter within WWE about bringing Brock Lesnar back. He was caught up in the sexual abuse allegations made against Vince McMahon and the news raised a lot of eyebrows.
Well, Meltzer adds that while there were discussions about Lesnar in WWE this week, those were off the record and "indicated a less hard-line about Lesnar." He added, "One company source said that there was no movement at all right now to bring Lesnar back as a performer."
This isn't overly surprising and while TKO hasn't shied away from working with UFC talent caught up in similar controversies, all signs point to Lesnar's time in WWE having reached its end.
