It's been confirmed today that Bruce Prichard has replaced Eric Bischoff as SmackDown Executive Director. The former WCW boss, meanwhile, has been released from the company. He lasted four months in the role but it was reported early on that he was struggling to get to grips with how things work in WWE.

While WWE hasn't elaborated on Bischoff's firing, one source tells The Wrap that "He just could not get the job done."

Among the issues behind the scenes were a writer hired by Bischoff falling asleep on the job on his first day and that nonsensical storyline featuring Roman Reigns and Erick Rowan. While RAW has greatly improved since Paul Heyman took charge, SmackDown has gone down in quality and it's clear to see why WWE has decided to make some changes.

With any luck, we'll have more details soon but this is a big story so expect a lot of different people to weigh in very soon.
