WWE is hyping up WWE Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Universal Champion Roman Reigns as the biggest WrestleMania main event of all time, but the company is already looking to the future.
There have been rumblings about Reigns facing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson on the Grandest Stage of Them All for several years now in what would likely be the Brahma Bull's final ever match. Ultimately, it could all boil down to Johnson's movie commitments (remember, he's also busy relaunching the XFL), especially as insurance issues have kept him out of the ring on multiple occasions in the past.
Now, Dave Meltzer has weighed in with an update (via WrestlingNews.co). "The situation with The Rock is exactly what you’d think," he explained. "The belief is Rock wants to do it. They believe that is the probable main event but they are all very aware that there are things that can get in the way and it could not happen. The working idea is that match for Roman Reigns against The Rock for Los Angeles. It is absolutely not etched in stone by any means."
"That’s been the idea for months and months and months," Meltzer continued. "That’s not a surprise but nothing has changed in the sense he hasn’t backed out and they are of the opinion that he really wants it because time is running out on him. If he doesn’t do it, he gets a year older each time. Is it gonna happen? It’s out of everyone’s hands."
It sounds like we'll just have to wait and see, but another big match expected to take place at next year's WrestleMania is Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch. WWE teased that for 2022, but instead decided to pit the Baddest Woman on the Planet against Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women's title.
