During last week's episode of SmackDown, LA Knight faced Sheamus, Cameron Grimes, and Rey Mysterio for the chance to battle Santos Escobar tomorrow night. The winner will go on to challenge Austin Theory for the United States Championship, likely the night before SummerSlam.
Mysterio won the Fatal 4-Way and will square off with his fellow LWO member just over 24 hours from now. As for Knight, fans are unhappy that he seemingly won't be part of the SummerSlam card.
Well, if the insider @BoozerWrasslin account is to be believed, current plans call for the massively popular heel to have an in-ring segment or angle during the upcoming PLE. That "could" switch to a match, though it's unclear who Knight would end up facing.
WWE is expected to give him a major push after SummerSlam, of course, so getting that started during this show makes all the sense in the world.
Knight has found success outside of WWE as both a former IMPACT World Champion and former tag team champion in both that company and NWA. During the time he spent in NXT, he feuded with Grimes over the Million Dollar Championship in what proved to be a standout storyline.
Here's the current card for SummerSlam:
Tribal Combat for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (c) (with Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa) vs. Jey Uso
Triple Threat Match for the WWE Women’s Championship
Asuka (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Bianca Belair
World Heavyweight Championship
Seth Rollins (c) vs. Finn Balor
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
Brock Lesnar vs. Cody Rhodes
Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler
Logan Paul vs. Ricochet
SummerSlam is set to take place on August 5. Keep checking back here for updates as we have them.
