You may recall Drew McIntyre and Tyson Fury engaging in a war of words over Twitter early this year. The heated exchange led to speculation that WWE may be setting up some kind of match or angle between the WWE Champion and the boxing star, and it sounds like there were indeed plans to have them face-off in the ring.
Inside the Ropes has heard that McIntyre was going to defend his title against Fury at an unnamed UK pay-per-view event before the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic put a crimp on overseas travel and made nixed live crowds altogether.
Apparently, Vince McMahon was "keen to capitalise on McIntyre becoming the first-ever British world champion in the company and the hunger of the UK fanbase for a big-time pay-per-view."
This would have been a big draw for sure, but the actual match... well, you all saw Fury vs. Braun Strowman, right?
Fury has a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder coming up and would probably be unavailable even if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic, but you can bet that once things return to some semblance of normality, WWE will get the ball rolling on Drew vs. Tyson again.
