During Wednesday night's episode of AEW Dynamite, Nick Gage used a pizza cutter to slice Chris Jericho's head open. Unfortunately, that spot aired at the same time the show went to picture in picture commercials, with the first one being for - and we're not making this up - Domino's Pizza!
Now, it's being reported by multiple outlets that WWE has attempted to capitalise on this to cause AEW problems and ensure the company loses one of its biggest sponsors.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there's been a deliberate campaign on WWE's part to contact Dynamite's sponsors and make them aware of how graphic the match was. "Domino’s is a major sponsor of TNT and WarnerMedia programming so this is a serious issue," he explains. "There was a concerted campaign to contact sponsors but at press time Domino’s was the only one that has reacted to the match."
Since then, several websites have said they've heard from WWE and been encourages to pick up the Domino's Pizza, but most have refused, and this story clearly isn't getting any mainstream coverage.
This isn't the first time WWE has made an effort to discredit AEW as Vince McMahon once referred to the product as "blood and guts" during an investor call in an effort to hurt their mainstream appeal.
