Following a highly successful launch for RAW on Netflix, we're back with another WWE rumour roundup. And yes, WrestleMania is once again on the agenda.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, "Rock vs. [Cody] Rhodes, the originally planned main event for this year’s Mania, is not happening." This appeared to be the match WWE was building to after last year's WrestleMania, but Monday's RAW - which saw the Final Boss share a drink with the American Nightmare - was an indication the door had closed on that.
On the plus side, it sounds like WWE might be going back to WrestleMania XL's original main event, The Rock vs. Roman Reigns.
Meltzer claims, "The idea of Rock vs. Reigns we have been told by several is not dead, and they still could go to that in the future, perhaps Mania but the idea of somewhere else, particularly with the crazy money some places are paying fighters, that could also be an option."
Moving on from the Show of Shows, PWInsider.com says that there's been some talk of bringing former Royal Rumble winners back for next month's PLE. Hacksaw Duggan and Ric Flair are two possibilities, though neither WWE Hall of Famer is expected to wrestle.
The site has also run a story revealing that WWE has considered World Heavyweight Champion Gunther vs. Logan Paul for WrestleMania, meaning the influencer and YouTuber is a likely candidate to win the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber matches.
In other news, it sounds like Corey Graves is returning to NXT as a commentator following Pat McAfee's return. McAfee will call the action on RAW alongside Michael Cole, while Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett will reunite on the blue brand. Graves is expected to head back to Monday nights when football season begins.
Dave Meltzer has also claimed that Malakai Black - Aleister Black in WWE - is finally finished with AEW and likely to return to his old stomping grounds.
"It’s been reported elsewhere, and one person close to the situation said they were confirming it to us but when we asked officially there was neither a confirmation nor a denial. Nobody expects him back," the insider said of Black's AEW status. "That’s been the case for a while, but evidently there has been talk in WWE creative about him of late.”
