WWE Shares Update On Rey Mysterio's Condition Following Eye For An Eye Match At EXTREME RULES

We didn't think they'd go through with it, but Seth Rollins actually extracted Rey Mysterio's right eye with the corner of the steel steps to win the first ever "Eye for an Eye" match at Extreme Rules.

It wasn't particularly graphic, but still pretty gross all things considered. The Monday Night Messiah certainly thought so, as he vomited after seeing the damage he inflicted.

WWE has now shared a storyline update on Rey's condition, and it sounds like he will retain his sight.

"Mysterio was rushed to a local medical facility to be treated for a potential globe luxation. Medical experts were optimistic that if the optic nerve is not severed and there is not too much strain on the blood vessels and nerves that connect the eye to the rest of the head, there’s a chance Mysterio can maintain his vision."

Despite reports that Mysterio would be leaving WWE, he is actually expected to return after taking some time away from the ring to negotiate a new contract - hence the severity of this match's outcome. Are fans going to buy that his eye was popped back into its socket without any long-term damage? Probably not, but WWE doesn't seem too concerned with maintaining any sense of reality these days.

What did you think of the match? Drop us a comment in the usual place.
