Earlier this week, PW Insider reported that "WWE is, for the first time, toying with using virtual fans as a possibility for future broadcasts, including SummerSlam." What does that mean? Well, it's since been reported that the company is trying to rent out the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida as Vince McMahon remains desperate to move out of the WWE Performance Center.
WrestleVotes has now added that the plan is to use LED boards where fans will appear live on the show. Applications will reportedly open next week, and this is because states hit badly by COVID-19 (like Florida) aren't allowing people to attend sporting events, even with social distancing.
This is a bizarre concept, and means we'll be watching fans, from their homes, cheering on the action. That's bound to lead to a jumble of noise, and a weird crowd atmosphere which doesn't come anywhere near what we're used to seeing at WWE shows. It remains to be seen if SummerSlam will be the first of their shows to head down this route.
