Here are your spoilers and results for WWE SmackDown - September 4, 2026:
- The unresolved Undisputed WWE Championship situation carried over into the opening segment, with Gunther, Sami Zayn, Finn Balor and Kevin Owens all appearing in the ring as Punk's crowded field of potential challengers continued to take shape.
- CM Punk later met with general manager Nick Aldis backstage and offered Johnny Gargano a WWE Championship opportunity. Gargano emerged from his storyline comatose state to accept Punk's challenge, putting him back into action in the night's main event.
- Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley were interviewed together backstage as their new partnership continued to develop.
- Charlotte Flair and Tatum Paxley defeated Fatal Influence in a non-title tag team match.
- Nikki Bella participated in a backstage interview that also brought Paige into the segment, keeping their personal problems alive after Nikki attacked Paige the previous week.
- Nick Aldis had another meeting with Gunther until Danhausen inserted himself into the conversation and called Gunther "Gooner."
- Chelsea Green appeared in the ring with Aldis and received official word that she had been medically cleared. The Irresistible Forces interrupted the segment, and Nia Jax came away with a WWE Women's Championship match against Green scheduled for Mexico City.
- Nia Jax defeated Tiffany Stratton by pinfall.
- Kevin Owens gave a backstage interview as the crowded WWE Championship situation continued to unfold.
- Corey Graves moderated a sit-down interview between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton ahead of their showdown at Sunday Night's Main Event.
- Trick Williams and Lil Yachty were featured in another segment building toward Yachty's five-minute challenge against United States champion Baron Corbin. A Lil Yachty music video aired during the segment, with Corbin shown reacting afterward.
- Bakusai (Shinsuke Nakamura and Kyoki) defeated The Miz and Kit Wilson by pinfall. This marked Nakamura and Kyoki officially wrestling together under the Bakusai name. WWE Tag Team Champions MFT emerged after the match, further advancing their issue with the new team.
- The War Raiders, R-Truth and Damian Priest received promo time connected to the WWE Tag Team Championship picture.
- Rey Fenix appeared for a backstage interview.
- Blake Monroe vs Giulia did not begin. The feud produced another aborted match, only with the roles reversed this time as Giulia attacked Monroe before the bell could ring.
- Sami Zayn crossed paths with Johnny Gargano backstage ahead of Gargano's unexpected championship match.
- Undisputed WWE Championship Match: CM Punk (c) defeated Johnny Gargano to retain the championship. Finn Balor, Kevin Owens and Gunther all became factors at ringside during the main event. Punk survived the situation and then called out Sami Zayn, challenging him to an Undisputed WWE Championship match when SmackDown heads to Mexico City.
