According to the @WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE is planning to have Payback take place one week after SummerSlam. Yes, you read that correctly: one week.
There have been rumblings for a while now that the company has plans to hold more live shows, including Saturday Night Main Event specials. Those obviously can't take place in arenas right now, but there's no reason WWE can't attempt to boost WWE Network subscriber numbers with additional shows in the WWE Performance Center.
"For whatever reason, WWE has added an additional PPV to the schedule, ONE week after SummerSlam," the Twitter account explains. "Payback will take place August 30th." Clearly, the plan is to have storylines from SummerSlam continue through Payback.
It is, however, surprising that WWE didn't decide to have this Payback show go head to head with All Elite Wrestling's All Out event on September 5th. Last year, WWE countered that with an EVOLVE show, though it was still AEW that generated headlines.
We'll be sure to keep you updated as an official announcement hasn't been made as of yet.
