We're just weeks away from SummerSlam taking place on August 5, and we may finally have news on who WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins will face at the PLE.
Rollins successfully retained his title against Finn Balor at Money in the Bank, but only after his opponent was distracted by Señor Money in the Bank, Damian Priest. We've since seen The Judgement Day continue to target Rollins, though they've also been pretty busy in NXT.
This past week, they defeated Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams, with Balor scoring the pinfall victory. The previous night on RAW, he pinned Sami Zayn to win a six-man tag team match, and Dave Meltzer says it's all to prepare Balor for Rollins at SummerSlam.
While the expectation has been that Balor will be added to the NXT Great American Bash main event to make NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes vs Ilja Dragunov a Triple Threat, it seems things have since changed.
"The problem is, Finn, is wrestling Seth. That’s for SummerSlam," Meltzer explains (via WrestlingNews.co). "So I doubt they would put Finn in a match and have him not win it right before putting him into two championship matches so close together. They’re only a week apart."
"They announced Carmelo Hayes vs. Ilja Dragunov because Finn’s being protected right now. Finn’s beating everyone because they’ve got to get Finn back ready for Seth. I do know that the plan was that Finn’s going over constantly because they’ve got to rehab him for Seth because that’s at SummerSlam."
So, will Balor beat Seth "Freakin" Rollins at the PLE? It seems like a logical next step, particularly if Priest immediately cashes in on his teammate and begins a babyface run that would turn him into a huge star!
