The unveiling of the 24/7 Championship was met with boos from fans who a) quite clearly wanted to see the return of the Hardcore Championship, and b) thought the title looked, well, terrible. Now, Dave Meltzer has somewhat taken the heat off WWE by revealing that the introduction of the title wasn't actually the company's idea.
It's said that while the "Wild Card" rule was WWE's way of increasing ratings, it wasn't quite enough and USA Network sent a number of ideas to them about what could be done.
However, those were all described by insiders as being terrible and the 24/7 idea was simply the best of a bad bunch. Feeling pressure to say yes to something, Vince McMahon went ahead and gave it the green light. However, the idea that it will be mostly featured in the third hour of RAW has left pretty much everyone confused.
So far, the title has been treated like a joke and only jobbers seem interested in winning it. We'll see if that changes this Monday.
