When Last We Saw AEW Dark:
The last episode of AEW Dark to air prior to this was actually one of the "AEW Dark: Elevation" spin-off editions on April 24, 2023. As far as the last true AEW Dark episode proper, that took place on the April 4, 2023 episode.
The show aired as a means of supplementing AEW's on-screen presence, always from YouTube, before more prominent shows like Collision and Rampage came into the fold.
Should AEW Dark Make a Return?
There was something kind of magical about the early days of AEW, when the company was still finding itself and grinding. In many ways, the program is far better now than it ever was, but it's missing the unique charm that it had when it was a little rough around the edges.
A show like AEW Dark was relatively boring for a person like myself to watch, admittedly. I'm not particularly fond of just watching match after match with zero story or character, especially when the talent is mostly made up of unknowns. This is why I'm also not into Ring of Honor, nor could I get super invested into NXT Level Up.
But the benefit of this was giving people in attendance something extra and getting some reps in for talent that needed it, more than anything else. Since AEW has four hours per week these days and also has ROH, I don't see much of a need for AEW Dark to become a regular thing. However, as a one-off special here and there, I see no reason why it can't pop up sporadically. It doesn't hurt to provide something for the YouTube platform once in a while if you're invested in growing that subscriber number.
