Preview & Predictions for AEW Dynamite New Year's Smash:

On tap for tonight's episode, you would think All Elite Wrestling will want to end 2025 with a bang, and since this is New Year's Smash, Tony Khan has some hype to live up to. At the moment of this publication, only four things have been announced, which are a promo from MJF, an eliminator match, and two title bouts.

I fully anticipate the promo from MJF will be the standard "I told you so" type of gloating about winning the AEW World Championship at AEW Worlds End. Someone will inevitably come out to try to humble him or remind him that he now has a target on his back. That could be Bandido, who won the Dynamite Diamond Ring and will face MJF at Maximum Carnage, or it could be one of MJF's opponents from Saturday in Samoa Joe, Swerve Strickland, or "Hangman" Adam Page.

I don't think Josh Alexander is beating Jon Moxley and earning a continental title shot, nor do I think Jack Perry stands much of a chance to dethrone Ricochet for the national title. If any belt is changing hands on this show, it will be Willow Nightingale taking the TBS title off Mercedes Mone. However, I don't necessarily think that is going to happen, either. Then again, Tony Khan has proven himself fond of the double champion idea, so it's not at all an unheard of scenario for Willow to walk out of this event with both the TBS title and one half of the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship. I'm about 51/49 on this, leaning toward Mercedes retaining.

Here are your results for AEW New Year's Smash Dynamite - December 31, 2025:

  • MJF opened the show with a promo, unveiling another Triple B title belt design. Kenny Omega interrupted via the screen, talking about how he's wrapping up his career and wants another title shot. "Hangman" Adam Page then came out from the crowd, followed by Swerve Strickland. They were held back by security. MJF told them to earn title shots with more wins and then ran off, so Page and Strickland beat up the security guards. The Opps then appeared on the screen so Samoa Joe could plead his case for why he should be the next to challenge MJF instead, as well as threaten that HOOK will choke out Page and Powerhouse Hobbs is going after Strickland, setting up a Lights Out match.
  • Backstage, after a Conglomeration promo with Mark Briscoe and others, "Timeless" Toni Storm had a "nonsexual" interaction with Orange Cassidy, which has Mina Shirakawa jealous.
  • The Death Riders (Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia and Marina Shafir) defeated The Conglomeration's Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Toni Storm by pinfall in a mixed tag team tornado match with Castagnoli pinning Cassidy.
  • Bandido defeated The Beast Mortos by pinfall.
  • Brody King defeated Lee Johnson by pinfall.
  • Darby Allin is planning to end things with The Death Riders when he goes after PAC.
  • Eliminator Match for a potential shot at the AEW Continental Championship: Jon Moxley (c) defeated Josh Alexander by submission. After the match, MVP and Shelton Benjamin came out to scope Moxley and allude to a future challenge to come.
  • Thekla is being set up as Kris Statlander's potential next challenger as well after a backstage segment with The Triangle of Madness.
  • Singles Match for the AEW National Championship: Ricochet (c) defeated Jungle Jack Perry by pinfall.
  • It's Death Riders against the world, according to the group in a backstage segment, putting everyone on notice for 2026.
  • Singles Match for the AEW TBS Championship: Willow Nightingale defeated Mercedes Moné (c) by pinfall to win the title!
