Tonight's special AEW Dynamite: Rebel Heart episode (September 9, 2026) emanated from Akins Ford Arena in Athens, Georgia and aired on TBS and HBO Max.

On tap for tonight's Rebel Heart special, AEW World Champion Will Ospreay faces David Finlay in a World Championship Eliminator Match; Swerve Strickland and The New Level defend the AEW World Trios Championship against The Conglomeration; The Young Bucks battle Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight in a Tables Match; Britt Baker, Persephone and Hikaru Shida face Thunder Rosa, Hyan and Maya World; Steven Borden makes his AEW in-ring debut teaming with Darby Allin against Mark Davis and Josh Alexander; Britt Baker brings back The Waiting Room with Rebel, Persephone and Hikaru Shida; and Rebel makes a special appearance.

David Finlay winning the eliminator match and getting a title shot while Andrade El Idolo has his future shot and Jon Moxley is set up already for All Out makes no sense to me, so Ospreay wins.

Swerve Strickland and The New Level aren't dropping their trios titles this quickly.

The Young Bucks likely beat Fletcher and Knight to give them momentum for the TLC match for All Out.

Britt Baker losing right now after her return feels odd, so she wins with her team. It's a bit 50/50 for me with Borden and Allin, as Borden can take a pin, but they could also just pin Davis or Alexander.

• The broadcast opened with a memorial graphic for Andy "The Butcher" Williams. Tony Schiavone, Taz and Excalibur later reflected on their friendship with Williams, with an emotional Excalibur speaking about the positive impact he had on those around him. AEW announced that Collision will feature a larger tribute to Williams.
• Britt Baker and Rebel brought back The Waiting Room, with Persephone and Hikaru Shida as the guests. Baker praised Rebel for the strength she has shown in her battle with ALS, while Rebel revived their old running joke by reminding Baker that her name is Rebel, not Reba. Persephone and Shida discussed their upcoming match against Maya World, Hyan and Thunder Rosa before leaving with Baker, who accidentally forgot her black glove with Rebel.
• AEW World Trios Championship Match: Swerve Strickland and The New Level (Kofi and Austin Creed) (c) defeated The Conglomeration (Orange Cassidy, Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong) by pinfall to retain the titles. The champions survived a fast-paced challenge before New Level hit DayBreak on Cassidy, allowing Kofi to score the deciding pinfall. Ricochet and his allies appeared afterward and complained about newcomers receiving opportunities in AEW. Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King came out to prevent an attack, with the former trios champions making it clear they remain interested in regaining the belts.
• Steven Borden spoke about spending his life afraid of living in the shadow of his father, Sting, and explained that being attacked alongside his family following Sting and Darby Allin's tag team championship victory helped inspire him to become a wrestler. Allin said Borden was never supposed to become the next Sting, but rather the first Steven Borden.
• Trios Match: Britt Baker, Persephone and Hikaru Shida defeated Thunder Rosa, Hyan and Maya World by submission. Rebel came to ringside during the match and delivered Baker's forgotten black glove. Baker put it on and trapped Hyan in the Lockjaw for the submission victory. An emotional Baker joined Rebel on her wheelchair afterward before the two embraced on the stage.
• A video package focused on Rebel's career, her ALS diagnosis and her efforts to raise awareness and funding for research. AEW wrestlers and personalities discussed what Rebel has meant to them, while footage was shown of members of the company participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge. Rebel spoke about her hope that continued research will lead to more effective treatments and eventually a cure.
• AEW National Championship Match: Andrade El Idolo (c) defeated The Beast Mortos by pinfall to retain the title. Mortos pushed Andrade with several close near falls before Andrade connected with a spinning back elbow and followed with the DM for the victory. Andrade reiterated afterward that he intends to defend the National Championship every week, but The Dogs attacked him before he could finish. Will Ospreay ran out to make the save ahead of his scheduled match with David Finlay.
• AEW World Championship Eliminator Match: Will Ospreay defeated David Finlay by pinfall. Jon Moxley joined commentary to scout his All Out opponent. Finlay repeatedly avoided the Hidden Blade and pushed Ospreay into a competitive match, but Ospreay eventually hit the Styles Clash for the victory. Moxley acknowledged Ospreay as "the man" afterward before the two stared each other down ahead of their AEW World Championship match.
• Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King discussed whether their alliance would continue despite Page having goals beyond the AEW World Trios Championship. Page admitted that the trios belts were not what he originally returned to AEW seeking, but said he still needs what he is looking for and wants to continue teaming with Bandido and King.
• Tag Team Match: Darby Allin and Steven Borden defeated Mark Davis and Josh Alexander by pinfall. The Don Callis Family isolated Allin for much of the match before Borden received the hot tag in his Dynamite in-ring debut. Allin later came off the top rope with a Coffin Drop as Borden simultaneously hit Alexander with the Scorpion Death Drop. Allin took Davis out at ringside while Borden pinned Alexander to win his debut.
• Thekla spoke about taking an unconventional path into professional wrestling and turned her attention toward AEW Women's World Champion Mercedes Mone. Mone interrupted from the crowd and refused to be intimidated by Thekla. The two briefly found common ground in insulting former champion Willow Nightingale, only for Nightingale to make her return and confront Thekla. Julia Hart and Skye Blue joined Thekla on the entrance aisle as she backed away.
• Will Ospreay confronted Jon Moxley and the Death Riders backstage. Ospreay explained that he personally requested the match with Moxley because Moxley is the only wrestler to pin him this year and because he feels he owes him for helping train him. Ospreay emphasized that their All Out championship match will have a 60-minute time limit and said he now understands what it takes to defeat a Death Rider. Moxley remained calm during the confrontation but showed his frustration after Ospreay walked away.
• Tables Match: Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight defeated The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson). Nick first sent Knight through a table to put The Young Bucks halfway to victory, but Fletcher later backdropped Matt through another table to even the score. FTR then interfered, with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler distracting Nick before Stokely Hathaway held him in place. Fletcher capitalized with a brainbuster from the ropes that drove Nick through a table to win the match.
• FTR and Knight continued attacking The Young Bucks after the Tables Match and prepared to put Matt through another table. Darby Allin and Steven Borden ran out armed with a baseball bat and chair to make the save. After FTR, Knight and Fletcher retreated, Allin and Borden stared down The Young Bucks before the four men shook hands to close the show.
