The tournament to crown the inaugural title-holders for the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship made some progression on the AEW Fright Night Dynamite episode that aired tonight (October 29, 2025).
Sadly, that tournament is not going to be something Penelope Ford takes part in, as it was announced she has suffered an injury (specifically a torn UCL) that has put her on the shelf "indefinitely"—meaning she is not able to compete in the tournament as previously planned.
Her tag team partner, Megan Bayne, was also interviewed about this to address what that means for her. Bayne said that it's open for someone else to take the spot, as per her approval, and invited the locker room to step forward.
Immediately after finishing that sentence, Marina Shafir stepped up to her to say "Don't worry, I'm listening." Jon Moxley then popped in to say "These two? Look out." Shafir and Bayne fist-bumped and are now the team going forward.
Bayne and Shafir already stepped into tag team action together after Dynamite during the tapings for this Saturday's episode of AEW Collision against Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize.
In other news for the tournament, The Sisters of Sin (Julia Hart and Skye Blue) defeated Queen Aminata and Jamie Hayter in their first round match after receiving some outside interference help from their Triangle of Madness faction partner, Thekla. This means they've advanced to face to winners of the left side of the bracket's match between Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale against ROH Women's World Champion Athena and AEW TBS Champion (and 11 other belts) Mercedes Mone.
That bout is scheduled to take place on next week's episode of AEW Dynamite.
The right side of the bracket remains Alex Windsor and Riho against "Timeless" Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa, who then go on to face either TayJay (Anna Jay and Tay Melo) or the aforementioned new team of Megan Bayne and Marina Shafir.
