Andrade Recently Won The Crash Heavyweight Championship

The returning AEW star is making waves in the indie world as Andrade has won his first championship since his release from WWE last month.

Andrade is now a champion!

The former WWE star is making big moves and it’s only been a month. First, Andrade shocked the masses with his return to AEW on the company’s sixth anniversary show by becoming the 10,000th member of the Don Callis Family. And now, the 35-year-old is a new champion.

Andrade had his first match since Summerslam and he won the Crash Heavyweight Championship in Tijuana, Mexico. He effectively put an end to DMT Azul’s 900 days title run as champion. DMT Azul won the belt back on May 5, 2023 beating Blue Demon Jr., Matt Taven, and EC3 to win the Crash Heavyweight title for the first time in career. Despite holding it for 900 days, he’s only defended it twice; the first time was back in January 2025 where he defeated El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and the second was against El Texano Jr. in July.

This is Andrade’s first run as The Crash Heavyweight Champion. At the moment, there’s no word on when he’s scheduled to defend his title for the first time. Though this is his first belt with The Crash Lucha Libre, the former WWE star is undefeated within the promotion as he’s won every match he’s competed in The Crash so far.

However, Andrade’s focus may be on WrestleDream as his attack on Kenny Omega last Wednesday seemed to indicate that he’ll take on the former AEW World Champion in his first match back in AEW. That’s just pure speculation on my end as it hasn’t been confirmed that Andrade and Kenny Omega will be fighting at the upcoming AEW pay-per-view.

Nevertheless, Congratulations to Andrade! This is his first title since 2024 where he held the barely recognized WWE Speed title for 161 days.

WWE released Andrade a couple of weeks after competing in a TLC match at Summerslam. According to several sources, the release had been in the works for quite a while. WWE reportedly fired the former United States Champion due to numerous wellness policy violations. Andrade has kept quiet about his abrupt exit from WWE and it doesn’t seem as if he’ll open his mouth about the company anytime soon.
