Where is Britt Baker?
It seems that nobody can get a straight answer out of Tony Khan when it comes to the former AEW Women’s World Champion. Even DDP tried to ask the AEW President where the doctor was and Khan simply left him on red.
The issue came up again when AEW was in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on the September 24th episode of Dynamite. Though Baker’s absence didn’t disrupt the episode, fans were questioning the return of Britt Baker. Not surprisingly, Tony Khan didn’t address it.
Despite the uncertainty of Baker’s future in AEW, the former AEW Women’s World Champion has seen the love that the fans have shown her and thanked them for their support.
Britt Baker hasn’t had a match on AEW television since November 13, 2024. At that time, it was believed that Baker was off AEW programming due to filming commitments outside of the promotion, but the rumors have suggested that Baker’s time off of AEW has something to do with the backstage heat she’s received in her recent return to television. Though that rumor have never been confirmed.
There were whispers back in July that Baker was trying to opt out of her AEW contract. But there were plenty of talents who refuted that claim. Tony Khan even addressed an update on Britt Baker’s status on The Takedown on SI by shooting down the departure rumors and stating that there are only so many open positions on each show.
“On a baseball team, you use nine players at a time. In the NFL, you can put 11 in at a time… Pro wrestling is unique because you can use a different number of people, but there is still only so many slots to fit into a show,” he explained. “We haven’t used everybody, and there are some really talented people on our bench that we can call in that would be a great part of the show. I absolutely think that applies to a number of women and men that are not necessarily being featured right now.”
When Baker will return remains a mystery. Reportedly, Baker’s contract with AEW ends in late 2026/early 2027, so Baker has a long way to go before being able to leave the promotion unless Tony opts to release the former AEW Women’s World Champion from her deal. There’s also the possibility that Baker’s contract could be extended because of her injury, so her deal could end up being longer than that.
