Is Serena Deeb vs. Mercedes Mone next?
Mercedes Mone is celebrating her 21st title defense as the TBS Champion successfully retained her belt against former AEW Women’s World Champion Riho. Mone has fought some of the best wrestlers in the world in the past couple of years: Athena, Toni Storm, Mayu Iwatani, and Stephanie Vaquer are just a short list of names, but if Mercedes Mone had the option to choose her next opponent, it would be Serena Deeb.
The TBS Champion revealed during an Instagram Live that the AEW star is one of her dream opponents.
“Serena is popping into my head. Megan Bayne is popping into my head. I want another rematch with Willow, Kris, and Toni. I want another match with Athena, Mina. But if it’s a woman I haven’t wrestled yet, I would have to say Serena. She might be number one, just because she is God, the master. The master of so many holds. She is a teacher. She is a guide, and she has just been doing this for so long, longer than me. So I want to test my skills against her, and I think we would have a wrestling freaking match. You want to see a wrestling match? Put that match together.”
That could be a great match if given the proper amount of time and build. However, Deeb is busy in ROH at the moment as she’s one of the participants in the ROH Women’s Pure Title Tournament. The tournament officially started at Death Before Dishonor where Queen Aminata got a win over Taya Valkyrie in the first round. Recently, Billie Starkz advaced into the semi-finals by beating Olympia. Deeb is still scheduled to take on Yuka Sakazaki. The winner of the match will face Billie Starkz in the semi-finals.
The 39-year-old hasn’t been on AEW television since March in a losing effort against Momo Watanabe. There’s no word on when she could possibly make her return to AEW programming.
Meanwhile, Mone still has Alex Windsor lingering in the background. Though the “CEO” beat Windsor on Dynamite a couple of weeks ago, she did tap out to Windsor in a tag team match the following week. It’s not been confirmed that Windsor will get another shot at the belt, but that does seem to be the direction that AEW is going in. It's possible that Mercedes could face Deeb, but that would be an awkward heel vs. heel match.
