Mercedes Mone has been TBS Champion for 500 days!
Not even the surprise of Lacey Lane can take the shine away from Mone’s history making title run. On Title Tuesday, Mercedes Mone defended the TBS Championship for the 22nd time against the former WWE star. Lane gave Mone a run for her money, but the match came to an end after Mercedes hit the Money Maker.
Today officially marks Mone’s 500 days as TBS Champion! The 33-year-old has beaten some of the best AEW has to offer such as Hikaru Shida, Riho, and Kris Statlander. Mone first won the title at Double or Nothing 2024 by beating Willow Nightingale in an excellent match.
This is the second longest TBS title run. Mercedes doesn’t have long to overtake Jade Cargill as the longest reigning TBS Champion as the former AEW star held the belt for 508 days. Unless Tony Khan opts to book a title change on Collision Saturday then she’ll easily surpass it. Of course, Mercedes could tie Cargill if she’s booked to lose the belt on Dynamite next Wednesday. At the moment, she doesn’t have any matches advertised for either Collision or Dynamite, but that can easily change during the week.
However, Mercedes has some ways to go to become the longest reigning champion in AEW history. Kazuchika Okada holds that record with the Continental Championship at 567 days and counting. There does seem to be a person who may take away that belt very soon. Mercedes doesn’t have a challenger for the TBS title at WrestleDream yet, but there’s still some lingering issues with Alex Windsor from their last encounter.
Though it was a tag team match, Windsor did make Mercedes tap. Given that Windsor hasn’t been seen much since that tag team match, it’s quite possible that the story between Windsor and Mercedes is over, but it wouldn’t be too hard to reheat that feud again if they opt to go back to it.
Congratulations to Mercedes Mone on her historic title run!
