Heading into this week's episode of AEW Dynamite, it was advertised that Tony Khan had an "important announcement" of some sort.

Toward the end of the episode, right before the main event of Kris Statlander defending her newly-won AEW Women's World Championship over the interim Ring of Honor Women's World Television Champion Mina Shirakawa, Tony Khan made his announcement:

"Thanks guys. We're having such a great 2025 in AEW, and I've got a big announcement that's gonna make things even more exciting around here. We've got some of the best wrestlers in the world. I believe that AEW is truly where the best wrestle. And I'm so proud of how strong the AEW women's division has been in 2025. I think that it’s time to introduce new championships into the division. This year, coming very soon, for the first time ever, we will crown the inaugural AEW women’s world tag team champions. And with that, let’s take a look at the new championship belts. Renee, let’s show the fans that new gold!"

Renee Paquette then unveiled the title belts, which are patterned just like the AEW Men's World Tag Team Championship titles, other than signifying this is for the women's division, obviously.

Nothing was announced as far as specifics on when the inaugural champions would be crowned, in what type of fashion they would go about setting up the match to settle the title-holders, or who would even be in contention to be vying for them in the first place. But given Tony Khan's words of it being "this year" and "coming very soon", there isn't much time left before this should be announced.

AEW WrestleDream takes place October 18th, followed by AEW Full Gear on November 22nd, ROH Final Battle on December 5th, and AEW Worlds End on December 27th. Given how the latter will focus on the Continental Classic, and how it wouldn't make sense to crown these champions on a Ring of Honor show, we can assume the women's world tag team champions will be settled either on an upcoming episode of Dynamite or Collision or at WrestleDream or Full Gear.
