Samoa Joe Feels That His First Run With The AEW World Title Wasn't What He Hoped It Would Be

The former AEW World Champion feels that his first title run wasn't what he hoped it would be, but Samoa Joe wants to amend that problem once he wins the belt at WrestleDream.

Samoa Joe is set to challenge Hangman Page for the AEW World title this Saturday.

It’s been over a year since Joe won the belt and it was a rather quick reign. Joe beat MJF at the World’s End pay-per-view in 2023 and he seemed destined for a lengthy run; however, during the midst of Joe’s title reign, Swerve Strickland’s popularity was on a huge rise.

Joe would end up successfully defending his title three times before dropping it to Swerve at Dynasty in 2024. He kept the belt for 113 days. As you can imagine, it wasn’t the title run that many hoped it would be, including Joe himself, but he hopes to amend that issue on Saturday.

“Oh, you’d be absolutely correct. I mean, anytime that you are not the possessor, of the AEW world championship.” He said to STL Sports Central. “You should be taking it personally. So yes, a hundred percent correct. You know, it was not what we would hope it would be, but like all things in the future, this too can be amended.”

Joe complimented Hangman Page, but he feels that the only reason he’s the AEW World Champion is because of him.

“Well, I think, in the world that I exist, anybody can get it at any time, including Hangman Adam Page. Now let’s be honest here. I mean, Hangman Adam Page, he’s been an exemplary person. But I mean, as far as like being a champion, what I consider a champion, he’s in the position he’s in right now because of what we, The Opps did on his behalf. He has been protected because of us.

When you disrespect me, when you stop and don’t recognize the source, when you bite the hand that has fed you so graciously, I mean, it’s only natural that I have to come in here and do a little correction, you know? I understand how the hierarchy works, how things really are in the world and you know WrestleDream that’ll be that correction, he’ll very much understand where he is on the hierarchy, where I stand and where my level is and where his level is and obviously he’s going to realize there are very very different places.”

Can Samoa Joe beat The Hangman at WrestleDream and become the new AEW World Champion? We’ll find out this Saturday! It should be one hell of a match between the two veterans.
