What’s going on with Chris Jericho?
The first ever AEW World Champion’s contract ends in December. The last time Chris Jericho was in an AEW ring was back at Dynasty in April. Originally, Jericho was off television due to his tour, but thats no longer the case.
Chris Jericho isn’t injured. And he seemed to have a ready made feud for his return as Jericho chastised his Learning Tree faction members Bryan Keith and Big Bill. He said he wouldn’t come back until Big Bill and Keith no longer disappointed him.
However, AEW doesn’t seem to be running that story anymore as Big Bill and Bryan Keith have been losing left and right for the past couple of months. Add into the fact that Chris Jericho announced his Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Rager at Sea cruise and no one from the AEW roster is listed on the advertisement.
All signs seem to point to Chris Jericho returning back to WWE. It especially doesn’t help that Tony Khan is giving vague answers about the status of Jericho. The AEW president was asked about his possible return and gave a runaround answer.
“I love Chris Jericho. He’s a huge part of AEW, he’s been here since the beginning and, you know, we’ll see what happens here in the coming months,” he said. “Chris is always a welcome, big part of AEW we’d always want to have here. So I am absolutely so grateful to Chris Jericho for everything he’s done.”
Jericho is active on social media and he has addressed the rumors stating that he’s still with AEW. However, the former AEW World Champion is not opposed going back to WWE.
We’ll surely find out by the end of the year if Chris Jericho remains under AEW contract. It's quite possible that Tony and Chris Jericho are allowing these rumors to spread so if he does return to AEW then it would be a bigger shock. That's pure speculation on my end. Though if the Royal Rumble comes and Chris Jericho hasn’t come back to AEW television then it’s safe to assume that he’s likely gone from the promotion.
