Dillion Danis and Luke Rockhold don’t like each other.
This past weekend, the former UFC Middleweight Champion fought Darren Till at Misfits Boxing 22, but that wasn’t the headline of the weekend. The headline was the 40-year-old getting into an altercation with the controversial Dillion Danis.
Danis was also fighting that night. The 32-year-old and Warren Spencer competed over the inaugural Misfits MMA Light Heavyweight title. Danis won in quick fashion as he got a submission victory within 15 seconds.
But prior to his title win, Danis and Rockhold got into a war of words at the press conference on Thursday. Danis’ little rant about the former UFC star showcased just how much these two despise each other. Those words turned into fists on Friday as the two exchanged blows at the weigh in.
Luckily the fight wasn’t too serious as both men were still able to compete on Saturday, though as you can see, Rockhold left with a mark he’ll never forget. It’s not clear exactly how it started, though according to Rockhold, this all started because of Danis' mouth.
“You’ve got professional trolls and you’ve got professional fighters,” Rockhold said before Misfits 22. “You put them in the same space, things are going to happen. Dillon throws water bottles at my head, you talk the shit, the repercussions will have to be accepted."
“He walked out of the elevator, I walked in, he f*cking talked his shit and he got clapped.”
Now whether that’s how it truly started is unknown. It’s doubtful that Danis would share the same story, but again, it’s not clear how the fight started so the fighter’s words are the only thing to go by. Despite the recent scuffle that left a mark on Rockhold’s back, he's done with the new MMA Light Heavyweight Champion.
“I’m done,” Rockhold said. “I got what I wanted. I got my handprint on Dillon’s f*cking face. You should’ve heard him crying in the back. People should hear what kind of a man that is. He’s not a man, he’s a boy crying.”
Danis hasn’t exactly talked about how the incident started, but he was surely happy that Rockhold was knocked out by Darren Till.
“I was so happy he put him out like that because Luke is a f*cking dirt bag,” Danis said at the Misfits Boxing 22 post-fight press conference. “I don’t know if you guys know Luke personally, but he’s a scumbag, and I’m so happy he went out like that. I weakened his jaw a little yesterday, but Till’s left hand put him out. The way he was laying on the ropes, it’s ‘[frick] you, man.'”
“He’s an egomaniac,” Danis said. “I hit him with a couple of lines and his ego couldn’t handle it. I weakened his jaw a little bit and Till just finished him off. I was so happy to see that.”
“I think Luke is dead,” Danis said. “I think he might be at his funeral. I don’t think he got up. Till put him out cold.”
