With Bellator MMA back in action, a huge lightweight bout has been rebooked as Michael Chandler will take on Ben Henderson at Bellator 242. Originally, the lightweight contest was set for Bellator 244 on June 6; however, the pay-per-view was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Chandler is coming off a big win over Sidney Outlaw at Bellator 237. Prior to the impressive TKO victory, the 33-year-old suffered a devastating loss to Patrício Freire that snapped a solid three-fight winning streak. The former Bellator Lightweight World Champion defeated Ben Henderson in their first encounter via split decision. Chandler’s professional record currently stands at 20 wins and 5 losses.
Henderson is currently in the midst of a nice four-fight winning streak, with the former UFC Lightweight Champion beating Roger Huerta (via submission at Bellator 196), Saad Awad (via unanimous decision at Bellator 208), Adam Piccolotti (via split decision at Bellator 220), and Myles Jury (via unanimous decision at Bellator 227). Henderson’s professional record currently stands at 28 wins and 8 losses.
Bellator 242 takes place on Friday, August 7 from a location and main event set to be announced soon. Henderson vs. Chandler II is expected to take place on the main card, though the placement of the bout hasn’t been made official.
