Will Ospreay is the 2021 New Japan Cup winner!

This past weekend, New Japan Pro-Wrestling held the finals of the annual tournament that saw rivals Shingo Takagi and Will Ospreay battle for an opportunity at the heavyweight belt at Sakura Genesis 2021. Takagi and Ospreay are no strangers to one another, as the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion beat the Los Ingobernables de Japon member in the 2019 Best Of The Super Junior XXVI Final.

After an intense back-and-forth war, Ospreay got the win over Takagi thanks to the Storm Breaker. The 2021 New Japan Cup winner cut a passionate speech afterwards over his desire to become the next IWGP Heavyweight Champion and claimed it was his destiny to be the next title holder. The next few moments were quite the shocker as Ospreay hit Bea Priestly with the OsCutter after stating that he loves the title more than anything or anyone.

The rivalry between Ibushi and Ospreay has dated back for years, with both men owning significant wins over one another. At Wrestle Kingdom 13, Ospreay beat the IWGP Heavyweight Champion to win the NEVER Openweight Championship. Kota Ibushi avenged his big loss against Ospreay in the 2020 G1 Climax tournament. Sakura Genesis will take place on April 4 at Ryogoku Sumo Hall.
