Former Ring of Honor star Jeff Cobb is seen as one of the most highly sought after free agents in all of wrestling, and it sounds like he'd finally settled on a promotion to call home for the foreseeable future.
Cobb made a couple of appearances for AEW as The Inner Circle's hired gun back before the pandemic took hold, and it was widely assumed that he'd eventually end up signing with the company. However, we're now hearing that the mega-talented wrestler has actually joined the New Japan roster.
According to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio, Cobb turned down an AEW contract to sign with NJPW, which was always his ultimate goal. Meltzer also revealed that Cobb will be a part of the upcoming G1 Climax.
We recently brought you the full match cards for the tournament, and while Jeff's name isn't mentioned for any of the bouts, the annual New Japan show is known for its surprise appearances.
As cool as it would have been to see Cobb in AEW, his hard-hitting style does make him a much better fit for NJPW, and we can't wait to see him face-off with the likes of Tetsuya Naito and Minoru Suzuki.
