NEW JAPAN PRO-WRESTLING Announces Several Matches For Hiroshi Tanahashi's FINAL HOMECOMING

We’re just three months away from Hiroshi Tanahashi's final match. 

Tanahashi is going to be busy in the month of November/December as he’ll team with NJPW World Television Champion El Phantasmo to hopefully earn a shot at the IWGP Tag Team titles at Wrestle Kingdom 20. 

However, a special celebration is scheduled for November 2nd and it features two huge title matches. For the main event, Konosuke Takeshita will defend his newly won IWGP World Heavyweight title against Hirooki Goto.

Takeshita shocked the masses by beating Zack Sabre Jr. for the belt at King of Pro Wrestling on October 13th. Following the match-up, the G1 Climax winner got on the mic and essentially issued an open challenge to anyone in the back. Goto quickly accepted the challenge and the world title match-up between these two was just confirmed. 

Hiroshi Tanahashi will get another opportunity to win the IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship as the veteran will take on Yota Tsuji for the belt. Tanahashi first competed for the title against Nic Nemeth at Wrestling Dontaku in 2024, but failed to get the job done. Tanahashi also fought Gabe Kidd for the title at New Japan Soul and he came up short once again. Will the third time be the charm for the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion? Tanahashi has NEVER held the IWGP Global Heavyweight title, so this could be his last chance to do so if he doesn't win on November 2. 

Those two matches will take place on the night that the Super Junior Tag League commences. The annual tournament begins on October 23 and will feature 12 teams (6 in the A Block and 6 in the B Block) fighting for an opportunity to get an IWGP Junior Tag Team title shot at Wrestle Kingdom 20. Thus far, those are the only matches confirmed for the Homecoming show, but more should be announced in the coming weeks.
