New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Sakura Genesis is officially cancelled.
The news comes after the Japanese promotion cancelled several huge events such as the New Japan Cup tournament and their anniversary show that featured Tetsuya Naito taking on Hiromu Takahashi in a champion vs. champion match.
Like the other events, the cancellation is due to the ongoing coronavirus. While promotions such as Dragon Gate and Stardom have recently started running live events again, NJPW states that the latest recommendations laid out by the Japanese Ministry of Health has made them arrive at the decision to scrap the annual pay-per-view and their scheduled show in Sagamihara on Saturday April 11.
There were no match-ups confirmed for the pay-per-view on March 31st, though Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reported that officials hoped that they would be able to run live shows again on the exact date above. At the moment, it’s unknown when New Japan Pro-Wrestling will start to run live events once again.
