New Japan is returning to the U.S. very soon!
The Japanese promotion is coming off a red hot Windy City Riot where Tomohiro Ishii won the STRONG Openweight Championship from Gabe Kidd and Hiroshi Tanahashi wrestled his final match in the United States.
NJPW Resurgence promises to be another strong show as Tomohiro Ishii will defend his newly won title for the first time against one of Gabe Kidd Bullet Club War Dogs stablemates: Drilla Maloney. Maloney actually owns a victory over Ishii, as the 28-year-old beat Ishii in the first round of the 2025 New Japan Cup. Can he do it again on May 9th?
The Young Bucks will also make their return. The former IWGP Tag Team Champions aren’t coming alone though as Matt and Nick Jackson have promised a couple of original OG’s will join them in their fight against Bullet Club War Dogs.
Mercedes Mone is scheduled to defend her NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship as Mina Shirakawa and AZM will battle in a triple threat match for the prestigious belt. This is Mone’s fifth title defense.
In the main event, Konosuke Takeshita will put the NEVER Openweight Championship on the line against ELPH. This will be Takeshita sixth title defense as he’s coming off a big win over Ryohei Oiwa at Sakura Genesis.
