The G1 Climax is finally here.

For those who aren’t familiar with the G1 Climax, the annual tournament will see ten competitors in Block A and B compete in a round-robin style tournament. The winners of their respective blocks will meet in the finals to determine the next challenger for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 20.
The first night had ten matches and there were several surprises throughout the night. The first was that IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre lost to Ren Narita. Shingo Takagi, a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, also came out on the losing end to Yoshi Hashi.
But in the main event, Hiroshi Tanahashi began his final G1 Climax tournament against Taichi in a match that went nearly 20 minutes. The early portion of the match was a feeling out process for both men until Tanahashi used a dragon screw to get the advantage. Tanahashi worked on the leg of Taichi, and though Taichi was able to make brief comebacks, the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion always got back the advantage because of the damaged leg.
However, a superkick changed everything. Taichi ran wild with back suplexes and a splash that got him a strong nearfall. But once both men got on the top rope, Tanahashi was able to counter and hit the High Fly Flow for the three count.
