The Young Bucks may return with a couple of surprises at Resurgence.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling held their Windy City Riot show where Tomohiro Ishii won the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship and Konosuke Takeshita beat Hiroshi Tanahashi in his final match in the United States. However, those weren’t the only surprises that night. The former IWGP Tag Team Champions issued a challenge to Bullet Club War Dogs to a match at NJPW Resurgence in their hometown of Ontario, California.
Now The Bucks returning to New Japan is not shocking. The duo originally made their grand returns at Wrestle Dynasty and beat Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi & Tetsuya Naito) and United Empire (Great-O-Khan & Jeff Cobb) to win the IWGP Tag Team titles for the second time in their careers. They didn’t keep the belts for long as they dropped them to Takahashi and Naito a month later.
Nevertheless, it’s the tease of bringing Bullet Club OG’s with them that’s surprising. Matthew and Nicholas never real their names, but it shouldn’t be too hard to figure out who these guys are likely to bring in with them on May 9th.
Those names are Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson of The Good Brothers.
The former WWE Tag Team Champions were released in February. It was shocking because Karl Anderson was out with a torn rotator cuff; however, prior to the injury, WWE wasn’t particularly doing much with Anderson and Gallows. Anderson teased returning to New Japan Pro-Wrestling shortly after his WWE departure.
Given his ties to the promotion, it’s no surprise that they’re returning to New Japan. The duo has been off and on in New Japan for nearly 18 years. The Good Brothers are the original Bullet Club members. Plus, May is when their 90-day non-compete clause expires.
Now this is just speculation as nobody has confirmed that The Good Brothers will team with The Young Bucks are Resurgence. New Japan is shaping their return to the U.S. in a big way. Should more information drop then we’ll surely keep you updated on New Japan’s Resurgence event.
