It’s no secret that Aleister Black has wanted to come back to WWE.
Though the former AEW star would consistently deny rumors of looking to leave his former employer, Black’s run in AEW didn’t inspire confidence about him re-signing with the promotion. So it was exciting to see him return to Smackdown earlier this year.
The 40-year-old is still slowly building himself back on the blue brand, but Black is finding his groove as a performer. Speaking to The Ringer (via Wrestling Inc), Black recalls returning to WWE and how excited he was to be back on the night his wife won her first singles title.
“It was one of those surreal moments, because I wanted to come back for a while, and it was in the works for a minute. And to come back the way that I was allowed to come back, and then the same day my wife — after like being in a company for seven years — getting her first singles title on that same night, was absolutely great.”
Black had to work under Vince McMahon in his first run and that stint didn’t work out too well. The Smackdown star discussed the difference between Vince and Triple H and it’s like night and day.
“Vince is no longer with us in terms of like heading the company [which is the major difference]. Triple H, obviously, different atmosphere, different approach, very professional, but in a way that there’s a lot better, in my opinion, engagement with the office. And I’ve always had a good relationship with Hunter.
I feel like I’m able to always kind of express how I feel with certain things or like he will listen to me. He’ll always have great ideas for me. And you know, I’ll present them with one thing. I’ve been doing that since NXT. He sees what I’m trying to do, and then will make it work even better. So you know, like, that for me is the biggest difference the first night I came back.”
Given how Black's run under Vince's book went, it's no surprise that he's enjoying working under Triple H better. It been quite the slow start for the WWE star, but Black seems to be finally getting into a solid feud with Damian Priest. There matches should be absolute bangers!
