During Friday's episode of SmackDown, the masked man who has been plaguing The Vision since January's Royal Rumble PLE was revealed as independent wrestler, Don Furio.
That received a "WTF?" reaction from fans, only for Furio to be revealed as a decoy at Elimination Chamber when Logan Paul was attacked in the Men's Chamber match by another masked attacker. Seth Rollins was then unveiled as the real masked man, returning to WWE to take revenge for his expulsion from the faction he founded with Paul Heyman.
As we're sure you'll remember, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed turned on Rollins, who was then written off TV due to a real injury. Since then, both Breakker and Reed have been injured, meaning the planned Rollins vs. Breakker match for WrestleMania is now likely going to be Rollins vs. Paul.
According to a Bodyslam+ report, The Visionary was part of the decision to have Furio, one of his former students, revealed as the masked man on SmackDown. It's not clear whether he'll factor into the story moving forward, but Rollins will need some backup, seeing as Paul has Austin Theory by his side.
The report goes on to reveal that WWE officials were satisfied with how this latest masked man storyline concluded at Elimination Chamber. Given the challenges they faced along the way, that's not overly surprising.
Rollins vs. Breakker was the natural WrestleMania match, but the former NXT Champion was injured shortly after the Royal Rumble. WWE then pivoted to Reed, but he was injured during a qualifying match for the Men's Chamber match. The call was made to have Jey Uso win, only for a backstage attack to lead to Paul taking his place.
Now, WWE can build to that match at the Show of Shows, though the company will have its work cut out to get fans excited about that, seeing as he wasn't part of The Vision when Rollins was ousted from the group. It's also safe to assume that Rollins is now a babyface.
Before Rollins was injured, it looked like he might face Roman Reigns at the Show of Shows. However, with so much uncertainty surrounding his return, the decision was made to pivot to Reigns vs. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk instead.
